New Home/New Releases

Is anybody out there?  It's been a couple of years but we recently relocated to New Orleans and we're getting our operations back together again.  We're compiling the last few one-offs from The Rudy Stoned Band on a new tape, and we've got an exciting new vinyl release for 2015 that we're not quite ready to announce yet.  Be sure to check back here soon, and remember to send us your music if you think we'd dig it - we probably will!

Lead Stones - Heaven b/w Bottle Goblins

EGS023: Lead Stones - Heaven b/w Bottle Goblins 7"

Yup, you read that correctly, it says 7" (as in seven inch vinyl record).  EGS, in association with These Are My Bongos, is making our first (and long overdue) foray into the money pit.  Two new Lead Stones songs recorded in the EGS studio pressed onto black or white vinyl by Brooklyn Phono.  Heaven is a swirling slice of high energy psych-drone, complete with screaming slide guitars and kaleidoscopic organ.  On the flip side, Bottle Goblins is a cool dip in a sea of warm jelly.  Loping keyboard bass and buzzing synth lay out beneath a breezy guitar melody that gently blows the cobwebs from the furthest corners of your mind.  It's already available to download or stream, and we should have physical copies in a month or so.  Give it a listen and pre-order if you like what you hear.

Octo Puce - RGB

EGS024: Octo Puce - RGB

It's been way too long and a lot has happened since the last time I updated. For starters, EGS is very, very pleased to have released RGB, the debut tape from Octo Puce. Octo Puce is Carol Santel, and RGB is a sort of reverse-Chromesthesia. Here's a little bit more about both the music and the artist in her own words:

"What became RGB was, at first, just a game I created for myself. It was an experiment in applying to sound, a set of rules that govern something completely unrelated to music. The first thing that came to mind was taking the red, green, and blue values given to a color in its digital incarnation and converting them to Hz. 230:92:140, taken from a pale sinewy pink, to my surprise contained seemingly endless reverberation of howling intervals--multiplying in number and giving into themselves. Recorded in October 2011 with little preparation, and all in one take, it's 12 or so minutes are the outpouring of what I had been absorbing not only from seminal musicians like La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros, but also from my peers I deeply respect--AR Plovnick, Long Distance Poison, and Opponents among others. 89:183:227 is a other-worldly blue sampled from the skies in photos I took while driving through the farmland of the Czech Republic. Together they create the sonic equivalent of the flesh and the ether."

ODO & AR Plovnick

EGS025: ODO & AR Plovnick

On January 9, 2010 AR Plovnick (Andy & Zeus, Lead Stones, etc.) and FORMA, were invited by Concord Ballet Orchestra Players to perform as support acts at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn. At the time, I wasn't playing out very often and I was sort of oblivious to the vast music scene happening around me, so I jumped at the opportunity to play. I made visuals for all three acts to use (my dvd player got pretty funky during CBOP, leading to some interesting repetitions), loaded my girlfriend's car up with some synths and my space echo, and drove on down to Gowanus. My curiosity was piqued when I saw FORMA's array of synthesizers, drum machines, and monochords, and needless to say I was very impressed with what they did with them. We kept in touch after the show (I even had my 29th birthday party at their home/studio/loft, The Schoolhouse), played a few more shows together, and eventually I got Mark (who performs solo as ODO) into my studio for an off-the-cuff jam. I wasn't great about keeping accurate studio logs at the time, but I think this recording was made some time in August or September of 2010. We tracked it live to tape and pretty much immediately forgot about it. Well I recently found the tape and it sounds pretty cool, and he thought it was cool, so here we all are. It 'officially' comes out on March 6th, as a free download or on tape (program repeats on both sides), but for now you can stream it (or download it right away if you pre-order the tape). If you're in the Brooklyn area, it'll also be available at CO-OP 87 (along with all of our other physical releases) so pick it up there if you don't dig mailorder.
